Why it took so long for us here at Sordid Cinema to tackle one of the seminal sci-fi films of all time might be a mystery of the cosmos on par with the is-he-or-isn’t-he debate revolving around a certain bounty hunter named Rick Deckard, but the release of Blade Runner 2049, a direct sequel to Ridley Scott’ 1982 masterpiece Blade Runner, gives us the perfect opportunity to rectify our very human mistake. This episode Rick, Simon, and Patrick are joined by Goomba Stomp writer Shane Ramirez to discuss both films, and there’s a lot to go over. First off, are these films actually good? How does the beautiful cinematography of each enhance its world? What exactly is the difference between human and replicant? And why is Rutger Hauer so awesome? Some questions are never meant to be answered.
Join us as we dive into the history of the original, debate the merits of respective plots, ponder the reaching philosophies (or lack of), and wonder why things meant to blend in with humans act like robots. For all this and more, tune in and have a listen!
